A CONSULTANT who has worked at Kidderminster Hospital for nearly 25 years is set to retire this week.

Dr Alan Bennett who has worked at the town's hospital since 1993, is set to retire Friday (October 13) for a new life in Devon with his family.

Dr Bennett, 60, started working as a consultant anaesthetist at Kidderminster Hospital in 1993, and during that time he has developed a pain clinic for patients in persistent pain.

Since the clinic's development, it has grown from a doctor only service, to include nurses, physiotherapists and psychologist, plus support staff.

Dr Bennett said: "Looking back over my career in Kidderminster, I feel privileged to have served many thousands of patients - both in the clinic and as an anaesthetist.

"My team has always shown dedication to the patients and, as the people of Wyre Forest are justly loyal to Kidderminster Hospital, I predict a strong future for the hospital."

Julie Williams, his medical secretary, added: "I have worked as his secretary for the 24 years at Kidderminster Hospital and it has been a really enjoyable time.

"Patients liked him a lot and they have been coming back to see him over the 24 years.

"He will be sorely missed at the hospital by patients and staff alike. "

Dr Bennett will move to Devon soon where he hopes to take up more leisurely activities - including surfing and marathon running.
