A BURGLAR who targeted a vulnerable elderly lady has been jailed.

Daniel Gurney, 32, of Deacle Place, Evesham, targeted the woman under the guise of selling food items to her.

He then returned to her home in Priest Lane and snuck into the occupied house and stole the ladies handbag and contents, including cash and a mobile phone on Tuesday October 24.

Officers gathered evidence of the offence and identified Gurney. He was arrested on Wednesday November 8 in Pershore and taken to Worcester custody.

He was dealt with by the catch and control team into the early hours and subsequently charged with house burglary.

Gurney was jailed for two and a half years after appearing at Worcester Crown Court.

He was previously jailed for 24 weeks in 2013, for burglary from Pershore Leisure Centre and a Halfords Store just a week after he was released from custody for stealing from the staff room of an Iceland store.

West Mercia Police are urging residents to ensure windows and doors are now locked.

They also warn that using light timers will give the appearance of someone being home on dark nights.
