A NEW explorer trail for children has been launched at Pershore Abbey.

Devised by Gail Andrews, who works in the abbey office, the explorer's pack challenges young explorers to find secret animals, laughing faces and a statue's underwear.

"At first glance, kids won't know what to look at in a church," says verger Robin Hancox, "but there's so much to discover in our ancient Abbey, we devised this trail to make it fun."

Inside the free pack is a map, some clues and a series of questions. It is available from the abbey bookstall and includes a "secret" crib sheet for adults and an Explorer Certificate.

Adults can join in too, using the new video touchscreens, large display panels or the new abbey guide book, to discover historical and architectural details.

The famous ploughshare ceiling and roof were recently restored, thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund grant of over £85,000 towards the substantial costs.
