WORCESTER-Birmingham & Droitwich Canals Society took members of Alvechurch Village Society on a narrowboat cruise on Saturday.

Three trips were arranged onboard the canal society's narrowboat 'Cecilia' during the course of the afternoon and evening.

Poor weather, with thunderstorms and lightening, caused delays.

Tony Brannon, of Worcester-Birmingham & Droitwich Canals Society, said: "It was a tricky start to the afternoon's proceedings as a heavy thunderstorm with plenty of lightning delayed the midday start.

"After taking shelter under the canal bridge the first cruise got underway.

"Thankfully, although there were a few light showers, the rest of the afternoon's cruising went smoothly."

Ray Yarnell, of the Village Society, who arranged the trips thanked the canal society, he said: "Can I just thank you all for your efforts in manning the boat so professionally, especially during the bad weather trip.

"You made our outing very enjoyable"

The canal society is a registered charity and is happy to take out small groups of people (up to 12 per voyage) with prior arrangement.
