A GRANDAD from Bromsgrove took the plunge for charity - quite literally - by abseiling 200 feet from one of Birmingham's tallest buildings.

Jeff Robinson, 62, joined 10 of his colleagues from contractor BAM Construction in taking on the 19-storey Holiday Inn Express for charity SIFA Fireside.

Mr Robinson, who has two children and three grandchildren, said: "I am used to working at height but even so I’ve not abseiled done anything like this.

"I abseiled down a small waterfall when I was about 12 or 13, but not on this scale!

“The supervisory team from Redpoint were so good, they made us all feel so safe and reassured.

"I knew I’d be OK with it but that said, I looked down after setting off and it does make you feel worse!”

Jeff and his 10 BAM colleagues were among a total of 25 who abseiled from the Holiday Inn Express for SIFA Fireside.

The team has raised more than £4,000 for the event so far with donations still coming in at justgiving.com/fundraising/bam-abseil.

Fireside chief executive Carly Jones said: “We are very grateful to Jeff and so many people who came together to do this exciting activity and support the work we do."

The charity works with vulnerable adults in society who have complex mental and physical health problem.
