SCHOOLCHILDREN across the Bromsgrove district have been holding their own royal wedding celebrations.

To mark the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex - pupils at Sidemoor First School staged their own wedding ceremony and afternoon tea.

As part of their project on British values, children sang hymns and made vows promising to care for each other, be kind and share their toys.

Deputy head Richard Watkins said: "We had the most fantastic wedding involving both classes.

"We had an amazing wedding attended by our Head Teacher Mrs Jones."

The Union Flag was proudly hoisted up Bromsgrove Preparatory School's flagpole on Friday, ready for a royal wedding street party.

Children dressed in red, white and blue for a day of flag-making, wedding dress designing and royal-themed quizzes and games.

Play Days Playgroup in Rednal held a royal breakfast buffet and mini disco, where children were invited to dress like royals, while Holly Hill Pre-School children in Frankley made and decorated their own cakes and crowns for an afternoon tea party in the sunshine.
