STAFF and pupils at Hanbury Church of England First School have been raising money for Bowel Cancer UK, following the diagnosis of their teacher Mrs Kershaw.

With help from education recruitment firm Class People, the school raised £246 in honour of Becky Kershaw, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in September.

Recruitment consultant Alicia Hart and digital marketing assistant Katie Allen joined Mrs Kershaw on Monday, May 14 to help with the selling of homemade cakes, baked by staff at Hanbury School and Class People.

The cake sale bought the school's fundraising total up to £1,820 for Bowel Cancer UK.

Mrs Kershaw said: "I am blown away by how many cakes were sold and I couldn’t have done it without the very kind support of Class People. I really appreciate it.

“Bowel cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the UK and we hope to get rid of the taboos surrounding bowel habits and encourage more people who are sent test kits to return them.”

Katie Allen, digital marketing assistant at Class People, added: "One of the most rewarding parts of our job is seeing the difference we make in our local schools and nurseries.

"Whether we are giving out raffle prizes or dedicating our own time at summer fetes, we always strive to be different and go the extra mile in any way possible.”
