THOUSANDS of fans flocking to the biggest hockey event in the world will be able to sample an award-winning sport formed in Bromsgrove.

The Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup takes place in London between July 21 and August 5, with 16 teams battling it out for the title.

But aside from that, the Bromsgrove Walking Hockey club will be playing a 30 minute exhibition match in the Fan Central Arena.

All spectators will also be offered the chance to try the award-winning sport for themselves.

The developer of Walking Hockey Alan Gormley said "We are so excited that our idea, originally to meet the needs of a handful of people in Bromsgrove, has taken off so well.

"To think that we are helping to let people of all abilities - novices or former players, people with physical and/or mental challenges, ages from three to 80, in fact anyone at all - play sport when they may be thought they couldn't or wouldn't again is truly humbling.

"I am indebted to the support and backing of so many people who have helped to make this possible.

"Who knows, maybe one day we will have our own Walking Hockey World Cup!"
