UNSUNG heroes who have made a difference to their community are set to be honoured as part of ‘Volunteers Week’.
Nominations for the 2018 Sandwell Volunteer Awards – which recognise the hard work of people across the borough – have been decided and the winner will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on June 2.
Sandwell Council, Big Lottery, West Midlands Police and West Bromwich Albion Football Club are joining forces to stage the special event, which is also marking Volunteer Centre Sandwell’s 40th anniversary.
Awards will be presented for volunteering in support of a range of themes, including health and social care, long service as a volunteer, sustaining the environment, community organisations, young volunteer, corporate, trustee and volunteer co-coordinator.
Jean Taylor, chief executive officer at Volunteer Centre Sandwell, said: “Volunteers make an enormous contribution to the safety, wellbeing and quality of life of our citizens. Every single bit of volunteering work is valuable in its own right and makes a positive difference.
“This event is one way for us all to recognise the hard work and dedication that volunteers in the borough provide.
“We look forward to honouring all our loyal, dedicated, special citizens.”
Halesowen Town coach and former Baggies midfielder Richard Sneekes will join civic leaders to present the prizes to the award winners.
