VOLUNTEERS are being invited to help out at Sandwell’s libraries as a way of “putting something back” into their communities.

Libraries across the borough are seeking people who want a new challenge this year, with volunteers able to get involved in a wide range of events, activities and opportunities.

These range from connecting with people through groups such as knit and natter, games and music clubs, while volunteers also help people find employment through job clubs and job matching.

Councillor Syeda Khatun, Sandwell Council's deputy leader, said: “I know that with people having such busy lives it can be hard to find the time to volunteer but there are many benefits to it.

“Every Sandwell library welcomes volunteers and greatly values the time and skills that our volunteers give.”

There are many ways people can join in and help with library services, ranging from one-off or short-term projects and evening and weekend volunteering, to those requiring a more regular commitment.

Robert Hazel, community library manager, added: “We need volunteers to help us build services which are relevant, innovative and respond to the needs of the local area.

“Volunteering is fun, rewarding and it changes lives, so why not come and experience it at your local library?

“We are looking for people from all walks of life to help us deliver our services at our libraries for the benefit of the whole community.”
