A 56-year-old Ludlow woman who assaulted a dog rescue worker at her home has been made the subject of hospital order.

Jane Mayer was said to have been attempting to recover her pet when she went Kerry-Ann McNaughton-Hughes address in September last year.

At a recent hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court an order was made to detain Mayer at a secure hospital for an indefinite period under the Mental Health Act following psychiatric assessments.

In addition a restraining order was made which prevents Mayer from having any contact with Miss McNaughton-Hughes, or her sister, Kathleen, over the next five years.

Mayer, of Clive Cottages, Ludlow, had faced charges of burglary with intent to cause damage, affray and assault following an incident on September 5 last year.

At a previous hearing she pleaded guilty to affray during which she used or threatened unlawful violence.

The plea was accepted by the prosecution to cover the events and no evidence was offered on the other two charges.

It was said that while the defendant was a trespasser at the house in Sandpits Avenue, she had not been there with the intent to cause damage.

Her intention was to recover her dog, but Miss McNaughton-Hughes was assaulted during a confrontation.
