A NEW community cafe and shop is opening its doors in Hereford after the manager was inspired by a similar project in New Zealand.

Lynn Pitcher is the brainchild behind the Revive community shop and cafe, which will be based at the Christian Life Centre building at 133, Edgar Street.

It is a social enterprise project, with profits going to community projects in the area such as the Outback Streets youth club, which runs every Friday to provide a safe space for secondary school-aged school children, and helping to feed homeless/vulnerable people at the Christian Life Centre.

The shop and the café will be run by volunteers. Lynn, the manager of Revive, spent four years in New Zealand, where she was a manager of a community store for the Salvation Army and this gave her the inspiration to run a similar project on her return back to Hereford.

Lynn said: "It has been my vision to help people in my own backyard and this is a perfect opportunity.

"We have also used local tradespeople, Creative Kitchens and Principle Services, to carry out the re-fit along with local suppliers, Howdens and Travis Perkins, who have all been very helpful in developing our project."

The store will sell donated goods and the cafe will sell light lunches and snacks.

There are also plans to run weekly sessions at the cafe such as a children's cafe, where parents can relax whilst their children play. Another session to be planned is a dementia cafe for sufferers and their carers.

Donations of high quality goods, (but not electrical, furniture or bedding) are welcome. The shop and cafe opens on Saturday, April 28, but will normally be open Monday to Thursday 10am to 3pm.

Refreshments will be free on the first day.
