THE leader of Cotswold District Council has welcomed the news that work is now underway on a new doctor’s surgery at the Tall Trees brownfield site, off Maugersbury Road, Stow-on-the-Wold.

The council’s planning committee approved the application for a new surgery in July 2015 amid concerns that the current premises in Well Lane no longer met modern healthcare standards.

However, there have been some delays along the way while funds were secured to make a start on the project.

CDC Leader Mark Annett said: “I am really pleased that this project has finally got underway, and I hope it continues to fruition at a good pace. The people of Stow can look forward to the modern facilities they deserve.

“Living in the North Cotswolds, and having attended the last public meeting in Stow on this issue, I am aware of the level of public feeling and local support for a new surgery.

"I have also been involved behind the scenes, and it is so gratifying to finally see the project moving forward.

"Delays are frustrating - and the district council can only do so much - but it is great to know that progress is now being made. Well done to everyone for making this happen."

The new surgery will comprise seven GP consulting rooms, four nurse consulting rooms and provision for minor operations. It is anticipated that the building should be available for use towards the end of 2018.
