AN illustrated talk by a National Trust garden specialist will take place at Upper Rissington Village Hall.

The event, called Military Gardens, is a talk by Richard Wheeler who has worked for the National Trust for the last 40 years and is now their national specialist in garden history.

He began work for the trust in 1977 as a chartered surveyor and land agent in North Wales working on the restorations at Erddig, Chirk and Plas yn Rhiw, and since then has held a succession of managerial and professional roles in various parts of the country.

He has advised on the restoration of the gardens at Stowe for the last 24 years, and is now working on major projects at Castle Ward in Northern Ireland and Tredegar in South Wales.

In his current role he is available to give curatorial and historical advice on some 98 Grade I and Grade II* gardens on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.

He lectures and writes regularly on all aspects of historic gardens including their understanding and their consequential restoration.,

The event takes place on Friday October 20 at 7.30pm.

It costs £3.50 for visitors including refreshments.
