WITNESSES are being sought to a reported assault at Bromsgrove nightclub 57 Monkeys.

The incident is alleged to have taken place inside the nightclub at around 3am on July 8.

A 35-year-old father, formerly of Bromsgrove, said he was ejected and assaulted by a member of the club’s security staff after falling asleep on his own while out with friends.

He told the Advertiser he sustained injuries including a cut lip and bruising to his face and ribs, adding: “If I was offensive or something then fair enough but I wasn’t, I just fell asleep.”

Nightclub owner Mike Taylor said the injuries were not sustained during the incident.

He added: “I fully support my door staff. This male was intoxicated. He was removed from the nightclub and it was a lawful ejection. He was ejected for violent behaviour.

“I have liaised with police and they stated to me that it appears to be a lawful ejection.

“I was happy to support the investigation with anything they need.”

Mr Taylor said the doorman involved in the incident has since moved jobs.

He added three members of staff and a manager were present on ejection, but the club’s security cameras did not pick up the alleged incident.

Police closed their investigation due to insufficient evidence, but have now issued an appeal for witnesses.

A spokesman added: “If further evidence comes to light, the incident will be re-opened and investigated.

“Therefore anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number incident number 158S of 8 July.”
