A MAN who got drunk and threatened to jump off a bridge was upset over the death of his grandmother, a court heard.

Christopher Small, of Flag Meadow Walk, Barbourne, Worcester, admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

The court heard that in the early hours of July 3, police were called by Small, who said he had been drinking and threatened to throw himself off a bridge.

Small, pictured above, was found on a motorway bridge near Crowle and, when police arrived, he was abusive towards them.

Mark Sheward, for Small, said: “This was an offence that occurred approaching the first anniversary of Mr Small’s grandmother’s death.

“Mr Small was effectively raised by his grandmother, and he was finding it very difficult to cope.

“He had gone earlier in the day to the Elgar unit at the hospital, seeking help, but was turned away because he did not have an appointment.

"He had been self-medicating with alcohol.

“When police arrived, they were not particularly sympathetic, he thought.”

Magistrates fined him £60 with £50 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
