POLICE pulled a woman to safety on a bridge over the M42 in Bromsgrove.

Officers spent an hour negotiating with the woman, who was standing over the barrier of the bridge just before 2am this morning (Friday).

Inspector Lee Page, of West Mercia Police, paid thanks to Chief Superintendent Mark Travis, who pulled the woman to safety.

He wrote on Twitter: "At 1.48am we were called to a suicidal woman on the wrong side of the M42 bridge in Bromsgrove. After an hour of negotiations she became very volatile and was pulled to safety by a brave PC from my team who feared she was about to fall. #Hero #Proud"

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a woman on a bridge at the side of the M42 in Bromsgrove shortly before 1.50am this morning.

"Officers attended and an hour later the situation was safely resolved."
