THREE schools in Rowley Regis and Oldbury are set to benefit from a £2 million refurbishment and expansion.

The cash for St Michael’s CofE High School in Rowley and Oldbury school's Bristnall Hall Academy and Lightwoods Primary will be used to upgrade buildings and increase pupil places.

The money will help towards creating an extra 3,845 school places in Sandwell that the council predicts will be needed by September 2025.

The work will allow Bristnall Hall to expand its pupil roll by 150 while St Michael’s will see its increase by 30.

Lightwoods Primary will be able to complete its expansion with the upgrade of classrooms and pupil toilets for junior age children, together with the adaptation of external play areas.

Recommending the cash injection as part of the borough’s investment in schools, education chiefs said: “The Schools Capital Programme aligns to service needs so that the council is able to meet its statutory responsibility of ensuring every child in Sandwell has access to a good school place by seeking to build on its commitment to expand successful and popular schools.”

Members of Sandwell’s cabinet are also being asked to retain £620,558 to fund future schemes.

Councillors will discuss the plan - which can be viewed here - at their cabinet meeting on Wednesday (July 25).
