A PRIMARY school teacher from Stourbridge deserves top marks after shedding her long locks to raise funds – and hair – for a children’s charity.

Millie McGarrick had almost two feet of hair – 21 inches – chopped off and donated to the Little Princess Trust, which supplies and funds wigs for children who lose their own hair through illness.

The 22-year-old, who works as a Year 2 teacher at Chawson First School in Droitwich, had her hair cut at Freestyle Hair Salon on Bridgnorth Road in Millie’s native Wollaston.

Millie said: “I have been working with children in some capacity or another for eight years and I have seen healthy children struggling every day with their self-esteem and confidence in their appearance.

“For children who, on top of this, are going through treatment for a medical condition which means they lose or damage their hair, I can only imagine the trauma this causes.

“If my hair can be used to bring happiness and confidence back to a young person who is already strong enough to fight their illness, I will feel very fulfilled indeed.”

Millie had not cut her hair for more than three years before her charity stunt and has raised £200 for the Trust as well as donating her locks. For more details on the charity, visit http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/
