MP Sajid Javid visited the bell tower at St John's Church in Hagley to pay tribute to the 1,400 bell-ringers that died during the First World War.

The visit, which saw Mr Javid tolling the number two bell, was part of the national Ringing Remembers Project.

Writing in the Hall Drive church's Book of Remembrance, Mr Javid paid tribute to the fallen bell-ringers, saying: "Their sacrifice is our freedom. Thank you. Never Forget."

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

The book is on display in the church for members of the public to add their messages.

Tower captain Richard Scarth said: "Sajid Javid made a pretty good job of bell ringing. Now all we need are some novices to train for the November 11 ringing."
