YOUNG people who need emergency accommodation in Redditch will benefit thanks to a £500 donation.

Pharmaceutical business Lexon started a ‘Good 2 Great’ scheme which saw a total pot of £50,000 agreed to donate to local charities as requested by staff across all sites.

The firm, which has a pharmacy in Redditch, decided to donate some of that cash to charity Redditch Nightstop.

Founded in 1987, Nightstop has been providing emergency accommodation and support for 16 to 25 year olds who have been forced to leave home and are at risk of becoming homeless.

It operates through a network of volunteers within the local area.

Susan Sadler, project manager at Redditch Nightstop, has been working with the charity for 11 years.

“The money donated by Lexon will go towards the continuation of services, like emergency accommodation and the accredited learning courses we run,” she said.

One 18-year-old who was helped by the service, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I arrived there in a bad state having been on the streets for approximately four weeks. Within two hours they found me someone to stay with, for another four weeks.

"Not only that, they also put food in my belly and then got me my own room in supported accommodation."

As well as a cash donation, Lexon has put together starter packs of toiletries to give to young people and Knights Pharmacies in Worcestershire have been advertising information on how to become a host.
