A SINGER from Worcester has made to the final of a national talent competition.

Jack Giblen, 19 from Worcester has wowed the judges in the semi finals of ‘Austen Search For A Star’ and will go on to compete in the final on Saturday, April 7 at the Austen Sports and Leisure Centre, Longbridge. The winner will receive £2,000.

Mr Giblen competed against Claire Lauren Cooper and Annie Williams, both singers from Worcester in the semi-finals last weekend.

“I was very surprised. Everyone in the semi-finals was so talented. I kind of went in with the mindset of 'just have fun with it' and it really paid off. That's my main mindset towards anything to do with performing now. So now I shall go into the final full of excitement and will be pleased whatever the outcome of the results.”

Mr Giblen impressed the judges with his renditions of songs ‘This is the moment’, ‘Seven Nation Army’, ‘She’s out of my life’, ‘Superstition’ and ‘You raise me up.’

“I've been I guess you could say 'properly performing' ever since I was 16. Although I have been doing it on and off a majority of my life.”

Since Mr Giblen was 16 he has managed to land several main parts in popular musicals for amateur dramatic companies and have done several gigs. He currently studies at London college of music and hopes to get a degree in musical theatre so he can pursue his dreams in becoming a west end and Broadway full time performer.

He said “I'm performing, I will always be satisfied and enjoying myself.”

The competition which has been running for 30 years, has been ongoing since January and competitors have entered from all over the country. A variety of talents were performed, from musicians and magicians, to juggler’s, circus acts and comics.
