SIR – About four times a week I walk past a house in my road with my dogs. This particular house appears to have either one of two small children residing there. I can tell this from the toys strewn all over the floor.

Sometimes there is nobody actually in the front room, just the massed ranks of discarded toys.

It matters not what time of day I walk past – there is one thing always dominant as I gaze inside. A huge television set.

Regardless of any human inhabitants the TV is always on, sometimes paused, but never actually switched off. Stranger yet, it is always showing, or paused to show, an episode of Peppa Pig.

While I am sure that this is an excellent entertainment show for children, I wonder sadly that the poor mites may not grasp the realities of life outside their enforced prison.

Perhaps the parents should consider taking their offspring out sometime and not merely sitting them in front of a TV set?

While I appreciate that children are much more cosseted these days, for whatever reason, I only hope that this is a rare occurrence in houses with children and not the normal course of events.

I am certainly glad that I had my childhood during the 1970s as I don’t believe that watching incessant television (even Peppa Pig) can be healthy.
