BIG-HEARTED pub staff have organised an annual 'give back week' to support Worcester's life-saving breast unit.

A host of fundraising events are set to take place at the New Chequers in Astwood Road, Worcester between Bank Holiday Monday (April 2) and Saturday, April 7.

Landlady Sue Cadman and husband, landlord Andrew Cadman, hope to raise at least £2,000 for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, based in Worcester and want people to come along and join the fun.

They first asked their customers which charity they should support for the fundraising drive which features raffles, discos, a quiz, bingo, barbecues and bouncy castles. The breast unit came back as the top choice.

The Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven is a local breast cancer charity supporting the women and men of Worcestershire with their breast care needs.

The charity was established in April 2016 following the work of the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, which succeeded in raising the £1.8 million needed to fund the creation of the unit.

Mrs Cadman said: "I put it out there to the customers of the pub asking them which charity they would like us to support. A gentleman came who said his wife had been cared for at the unit and he would like us to support that charity.

"Please come along and help us raise money for a great cause. We are asking people if they would like to donate gifts to raffle or auction off.

"We have a full week of events and would love for people to come and join us at these events in raising the money."

The fun begins on Bank Holiday Monday (April 2) from 1pm when there will be a car boot sale and barbecue.

A charity crib night will take place on the evening of the same day at 8pm (£3 entry).

A charity coffee morning will take place at 11am on Tuesday, April 3. There will be free tea and coffee but donations are requested for the cakes to support the unit.

A charity darts knockout will take place at 8pm on Tuesday (£3 entry)

Charity bingo will follow on Wednesday, April 4 at 1pm (£4 per book).

A charity pool competition will take place on the same day at 8pm (£3 entry). Names must be submitted by 7.15pm.

Charity afternoon tea is the order of the day on Thursday, April 5 between 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The fundraiser will be held in the middle room and function room. Tickets are £5 per person and available by calling 01905 330202.

A quiz will follow in the bar, a disco in the function room and a poker night in the middle room, all at 8pm on Thursday.

A charity auction, family disco and raffle will take place on Friday, April 6 at 8pm.

The finale will include a car wash, barbecue, disco and bouncy castle from 1pm on Saturday, April 7, marking the end of the 'give back week'. Lilly Cadman, aged eight, and Francis Cadman, aged seven, with Susan Cadman and Nicola Garratt will also be taking part in a sponsored fancy dress walk in Worcester to try and boost the grand total.
