ONE of the world’s best-known children’s tales is being dramatised at a Worcestershire school this month.

The pupils of Abberley Hall School at Great Witley are starring in their own spectacular version The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The lavish production, featuring 45 children aged from 11 to 13, is based on the 1950s fantasy novel by C.S. Lewis and is set in Narnia, a land of talking animals and mythical creatures, found by travelling through the back of a wardrobe.

Abberley Hall’s head of dramatic arts Clare Eynon said: “This is a special show for us as it features four main characters who are children evacuated to a large old English country house.”

“Our school was founded just over 100 years ago when pupils from a school in London re-located here during the First World War so the story has particular resonance here as we share that history and setting.

“It is also the 40th anniversary of the opening of our school theatre so we are marking four decades of dramas here.

“This is a great production with wonderful costumes and scenery and the children have worked exceptionally hard to make it a success for the audience and they have really enjoyed helping out behind the scenes too.

“The cast has been rehearsing for several months and they are putting on a fantastic drama,” she added.

The musical is to be staged in the school’s Ashton Theatre from Thursday, March 22 until until Saturday evening (March 24).
