THE jury has retired to consider its verdict in a cocaine conspiracy trial.

The panel, made up of seven men and five women, retired at around 3pm today after a four week trial at Worcester Crown Court.

All four defendants - Mohammed Nasar, his son Aaqib Nasar, Robert Degaris and Steven Binning - deny being part of a conspiracy to bring cocaine (a class A drug) to Worcester between January 1, 2015 and December 8, 2016.

Mohammed, Nasar, dubbed the 'puppet master' by the prosecution, denies two cocaine conspiracy charges in total and a further count of conspiracy to transfer criminal property.

The remaining defendants each face a single charge of conspiracy to supply cocaine.

Judge Robert Juckes QC summed up the case after the prosecution and defences barristers each gave closing speeches.

The evidence has included covert recordings from the van of Ashley James, already sentenced at a previous trial for what the prosecution say is a linked cocaine conspiracy.

Recordings, described as ‘racist’ by judge Juckes, referred to a man the prosecution say is Mohammed Nasar, accused of being the gang’s supplier.

However, Nasar says the recordings do not refer to him and has never been known as 'Naz'.

Key dates include May 13, 2015 when James's lieutenants, Chris Cornes and Marcus Henney, were arrested at the junction of Deansway and Copenhagen Street in Worcester with half a kilo of cocaine shortly after meeting with Robert Degaris at the car park of City Gym.

A raid followed at their address - 118 Bromyard Road, St John's, during which more evidence was seized.

However, Degaris, the only defendant who did not give evidence from the witness box, denied handing over cocaine.

Degaris's defence is that, while he was being observed by police at the car park, the officer did not see him hand over any package.

Another key date is November 13, 2015 when Saheed Iqbal was arrested with a kilo of cocaine after meeting with Steven Binning in Kidderminster.

Binning said he was handing over a loan which Iqbal was picking up on behalf of Mohammed Nasar. He said he only met Iqbal when he handed over the loan.

The former partner of Nasar, Sarah Lancaster, was arrested on December 11, 2015 with nearly £20,000 in criminal cash. As soon as she was released from Worcester Police Station she met Nasar at Sin, the nightclub in Worcester's New Street.

The trial continues.
