HIGH school students had their interview skills put to the test by a recruitment agency.

Sixty Year 12 students at Pershore High School were quizzed by recruitment consultants from Worcester agency, Hewett Recruitment.

Led by senior marketing and commercial consultant, Kate Turnbull and branch administrator Nicola Jones, students were given tips on how to achieve the perfect interview.

With a focus on preparation, time management and techniques, the workshop also provided an insight into common mistakes and things to avoid in an interview.

Helen Airdrie, careers advisor at Pershore High School, said “Perfecting your interview skills is crucial at any age or level in your career, but imperatively so at the very beginning when competition is tough. The prospect of attending job interviews is daunting for many young people entering the job market, but Kate and Nicola were brilliant at engaging with the students at their level, talking through their anxieties and leaving them feeling more confidence.”

“Whilst the main sectors are well-known, many young people don’t yet fully understand what versatile career opportunities are available within each field,” said Ben Mannion, director at Hewett Recruitment and chairman of Connecting Schools and Business in Worcestershire.

“Many may dismiss companies or roles, within finance or engineering for instance, due to their perceived lack of suitable skills. We wanted to open their eyes to all the other roles in divisions such as marketing and IT which are available within those fields and which they might not have necessarily considered.”
