A SELFLESS Bewdley schoolgirl celebrated her 11th birthday by donating money and gifts to a Wyre Forest dog’s charity.

Mia Blackburn spent her special day on Saturday (March 17) visiting Forest Dog Rescue where she delivered treats and toys for the canines being helped there. She also donated her birthday money to the cause.

The Bewdley Primary School pupil organised an appeal for goods to take to Forest Dog Rescue and was backed by local stores Pets At Home, Pets Corner, Tesco and Co-op as well as friends from her school.

Her proud mum Kirsty Yeomans said: “Mia is totally obsessed with dogs and as we can't have one right now due to work commitments she asked if we go and help out at the rescue.

“This led to her asking if she can try and collect and donate some dog treats and toys as she decided to use her birthday money to donate to the centre.

“We've had loads of support which has been absolutely fabulous and we will be forever grateful.

“All of this was Mia’s hard work and I was more of an acting PA for her to send emails. I’m so proud of her with what she’s done – my little campaigner!”

Delighted volunteers at Forest Dog Rescue took to social media to thank Mia for her kindness on Saturday. They added: “Happy 11th birthday Mia, although we think it was more of a treat for our dogs than for you!”
