A MAN from Bromsgrove has been jailed for stealing meat, cosmetics and washing powder from local shops.

Michael Smith, age 28, of Foxwalks Avenue, was arrested at his house on Tuesday, March 6 in relation to six theft offences from shops in Bromsgrove between January 23 and February 4.

He was later charged and appeared at Redditch Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, March 7, where he pleaded guilty.

Smith was sentenced to 12 weeks and 10 days in jail.

Sergeant David King, of Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Thefts and shoplifting offences impact greatly on local businesses and I'm pleased that we have been able to secure a quick conviction, which I hope will go someway towards showing Michael Smith that he must take responsibility for his actions.

"North Worcestershire officers are actively targeting acquisitive crime offences in Bromsgrove, and I hope this sentencing reassures the public we are take crimes of this nature seriously and will act on information received."
