THERE is still time to book your Christmas tree collection by the 1st Colwall Scouts on Saturday, January 6.

If you live in Colwall or any of the surrounding villages, the Scouts will collect your tree and dispose of it for a minimum donation of £4.50.

“Take the hassle, and all those pine needles, out of your Christmas clear-up. Let us do it for you,” said Chris Isherwood, the organiser.

The collection service is being operated by a group of Scouts who are going to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland next year.

They have set up a Facebook page @ColwallChristmasTreeCollection, and a hotline 07561 827128 for bookings. There is a fleet of parents with trailers, ready to collect the trees.

Kandersteg is the centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, set up in 1923 when Lord Baden-Powell was inspired by the first World Jamboree.

Some of the Colwall Scouts, between 10 and 15 years old, will be spending a week there in August, making friends with other Scouts from around the globe.

“It will be an amazing trip, but it's expensive,” said Mr Isherwood, “so it’s important that the young Scouts make an effort to raise some of the money towards it.”
