THERE will be musical fun for all the family next weekend as Halesowen’s St John’s Church hosts a fundraising ‘Day of Song’.

After starting with a music making session for children, the day of free events – taking place on Saturday, September 30 – will also include performances from local choirs and tours up the tower.

The day will culminate in a ‘Sing for your supper’ concert led by Kingswinford Choral Society, costing £10, who will be performing songs from the shows, while refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Tombola stalls and a grand prize draw will also be held in a bid to raise funds for the much-loved historical church and landmark in the centre of the town.

From 10am until 12.30pm a free singing workshop for primary school children is being taken by Cathy Lamb, the joint director of music at Lichfield Cathedral, who also organises the cathedral’s children's outreach programme.

Local choirs will perform in 20 min slots from 2pm to 5pm, while tower tours will take place at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, followed by a ‘proper’ afternoon tea using china cups and plates.

Margaret Pickford, one of the event organisers, said: “Much local musical talent will be on display during the day – there will be something for all ages to enjoy.

“So please bring your families, friends and neighbours along to support this event in the beautiful surroundings of St John’s.

“The Day of Song is a fundraising event, but primarily we hope that it will be a day when our local community come into our church to have fun and sing together.”

All activities apart from the ‘Sing for your supper’ concert – which starts at 7.30pm – are free, but to buy tickets for the evening show call 0121 501 2443.
