A MAN bit a bouncer at a Hereford nightclub after being refused entry, a court heard.

Julian Christopher Rivett, 33, of Ranelagh Street, Hereford, pleaded guilty to assaulting Samuael Hogan at The Venue nightclub on July 31.

Sara Beadow, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court on Thursday, said that Rivett was told that he wasn't allowed into the nightclub due to being too intoxicated.

"Mr Hogan went to tell the defendant that he wasn't coming in and Rivett reached both arms out to punch Mr Hogan who pushed him away," said Miss Beadow.

"To his credit Rivett retreated at this point," .

Rivett came back towards the victim swinging his arms and swearing. The defendant was taken to the ground and restrained, during which he bit Mr Hogan on the chest which lasted a couple of seconds and caused a sharp pain to the victim and visible injury.

At the same time he punched Mr Hogan to the side of his face with his fist.

When interviewed Rivett said he had no memory of the incident but 'felt terrible about it'.

Mr Hogan sustained a red mark under his eye and a purple bruise the size of a £2 coin on his chest.

Chris Read, mitigating, said that it was the first time Rivett had gone on a night out with friends in a 'very long time'.

He said that in 2014 Rivett had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was initially on medication which was virtually impossible to combine with alcohol.

However, about four months before the incident a change of his treatment plan led to the medication being stopped.

"He has very little memory of this incident at all," said Mr Read.

"He accepts what is said and it is very much out of character for him."

Magistrates ordered Rivett to pay £250 compensation to Mr Hogan and £135 costs.
