OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses after a large quantity of cigarettes were stolen from WHSmith in Kidderminster overnight.

The thieves forced entry into the WHSmith store, in Vicar Street, between 2.50am and 3.10am this morning (Friday, July 28).

Once inside, the offenders have removed a large quantity of cigarettes from behind the counter.

A passerby has reported seeing one offender dressed in black clothing and wearing a balaclava - before fleeing the scene in a dark blue BMW M3 heading in the direction of Worcester Street.

Sergeant David King, of West Mercia Police, said: "We would like to hear from anyone else who might have been within the area at the time, and who has yet to come forward.

"We especially would like to hear from anyone who might have seen the described vehicle within the area prior to the incident, or seen a person inside acting suspiciously."

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101, quoting incident reference number 62S of July 28.
