IT was a day brimming with colour, fun and excitement when Evesham held its annual carnival.

At least 2,000 people flocked to the town to enjoy the parade, which looped through the streets accompanied by music and dance.

The event, organised by the Vale of Evesham Round Table and carnival committee, saw 18 floats followed by an entourage of more than 150 walking participants singing, dancing and entertaining crowds as they passed through the town centre.

Carnival press officer Tim Groves said: "It was really good. The floats were fantastic.

"The weather stayed dry unlike last year, when the rain came at 2pm."

He added: "We managed to get a bigger crowd than we have ever had before."

The carnival featured painting, fairground rides and a drawing competition as well as food and drink stalls.

Musical entertainment included a melody of tracks performed by tribute artists to Michael Buble, Cher, Gary Barlow, Elvis and Whitney Houston.

The carnival queen handover took place at 1.15pm with 13-year-old Teigan Koorts chosen as this year's queen.

Travelling at Teigan's side during the procession was carnival princess, 10-year-old Lauryn Carter along with the queen’s attendees Abigail Goodge, six, Rosie Freeman, six, Lara Clements, seven, Daisy Allford, five, and Freya Bonham, eight.

At noon, the floats were judged with The De Montfort School coming first, special needs school Vale of Evesham School in second and Evesham Adventure Playground in third.

The event is organised by team of six Round Table members alongside several volunteers in the community.

2017 is the first year that Evesham Ladies Circle have played an official part in the organisation of the town carnival since the women-only social group was re-launched in July 2016.
