A COUPLE will raise funds for a life-saving service which has helped them reach a golden celebration today.

Henry Rodenhurst says he owes his life to the Midlands Air Ambulance after medics resuscitated him after a horror fall at his farm in Wadborough in 2012.

Now Mr Rodenhurst, aged 74, and wife Angela, 69, will raise funds for the vital service when they celebrate their golden wedding today.

Mr Rodenhurst recalled how he fell 18 ft off the back of a silage pit at his farm in Wadborough and landed head first on some railway irons.

Mr Rodenhurst, who has now retired, said: “The air ambulance saved my life.

“They picked me up out of the yard and resuscitated me.

“My wife couldn’t believe that I’d come back to life.

“I can’t remember nothing after falling. The next thing I know I woke up in Worcester hospital.

“It happened so quickly, it was shocking waking up in the hospital. They said I was out for the count. I was in lots of pain."

The couple are putting on a free bar for family and friends at the Speed The Plough, in Tibberton, near Worcester, and guests are being invited to donate to the charity at the bar.

Their daughter Tracey Williams, who is landlady of the pub, said she had bought 25 kegs of alcohol for the event and installed special wedding anniversary clips on the pumps.

Ms Williams, 43, said: "Air ambulance is a charity that's close to all our hearts as they saved my dad when he fell off the silage pit so we can't thank them enough.

"They didn't want a party but then we said why don't we do something for the air ambulance," Ms Williams said.

"They are ready for a good night. We hope everyone will dig deep [for charity].

"We hope to raise as much as we can get."

The couple also have a son Ian.

Mr Rodenhurst said his wife was brilliant after the accident and they had enjoyed their 50 years together.

“I met her when I went to fix the brakes on a chap’s motor and she was one of his relatives,” he said.

“I can’t remember what I said but we got on like a house on fire. Twelve weeks later we decided to get married.”
