A LORRY got stuck in a narrow street in Worcester after the driver was directed there by a sat nav.

The driver was forced to call police for help to free the lorry from Park Street, off Wyld's Lane, at around 4.30pm today.

The lorry, which had a large trailer attached, was unable to squeeze past cars that were parked both sides of the road and unable to reverse due to the size of his trailer.

Passerby Rafal Pluta said: "He was completely stuck.

"He had to call the police to try and help."

Mr Pluta, who lives in Park Street near where the lorry was trapped, said: "This is the third time within two weeks that lorries are stuck in this area.

"There is no sign to say lorries aren't allowed and the GPS takes them down here.

"I spoke to the driver and he said it's a common problem in England with the narrow roads and poor signage for lorries.

"The driver said he had been stuck twice before himself."

The lorry, which was from German kitchen company Wellmann, was freed after the owner of a van parked nearby was tracked down and, once the van was moved, two passersby were able to direct the lorry out.

Two police community support officers were positioned at either end of Park Street for around half an hour to help with traffic control.

Mr Pluta said: "This happens a lot here. There is a lot of glass broken - maybe once a week."

The lorry was finally freed at around 5.30pm.
