MORE than half of passengers using trains say they are satisfied with the service, recent figures reveal.

A survey of London Midland and Great Western Railway passengers shows more than 80 per cent of customers in Worcester - and across the West Midlands - are happy with the standard of service they receive.

Published by the National Rail Passenger Service, the numbers come just days after commuters faced hours of chaos on the trains following a double signalling failure near Worcester.

However, the survey results have been welcomed by the two rail operators serving Worcestershire.

A spokesman for London Midland said: "This is another good score following four consecutive year–on-year increases in overall satisfaction.

"We welcome this feedback. Many of the areas where passengers say they want more improvements are being addressed as part of our current £15 million investment programme.

"This includes improvements to cleanliness, presentation of trains and security."

And a Great Western Railway spokesman said: "Our network is undergoing its greatest period of investment in a generation.

"New trains are already in operation in London and the Thames Valley, with more being rolled out throughout the course of this year and into 2018.

"These new trains will slash the age of the Great Western fleet by more than half, deliver more seats, more frequent services and will provide a change in passenger experience."

The overall results show 85 per cent of passengers using London Midland trains in the West Midlands - including through Worcester - are satisfied with the service.

But the number drops to 74 per cent satisfaction among commuters, while figures also reveal just 55 per cent of all customers feel the service is good value for money.

Other statistics include: 75 per cent of customers are happy with trains' punctuality and reliability, 71 per cent feel the trains are clean enough and 73 per cent said the seats were comfortable.

Meanwhile, 81 per cent of customers using Great Western Railway's West of England trains said they were satisfied with the service.

Again, the positive responses dropped for commuters with 69 per cent saying they felt the service was satisfactory.

But 83 per cent said they were happy with trains' reliability, while 84 per cent said journey length was satisfactory.
