AN ANGRY woman is calling for a ban on lorries on part of a Worcester road after her car was smashed into.

Penny Young, 62, from the Northwick area of Worcester had her car crashed into whilst it was parked on Wylds Lane on Thursday (December 1) and it has been written off.

Ms Young is now calling for the road to be closed off to lorries from the junction with Midland Road to the city centre.

She said: "I can't see why HGV's need to go down to the city end of Wylds Lane at all.

"Even quite small vehicles struggle to get between the parked cars at times.

"It’s bad enough at the other end of Wylds Lane.

“Nearly all of one side of the road is congested with parked cars, visibility is limited in places, and at times it can be difficult to get through, but HGV’s need access to the industrial estate and the sauce factory."

She added about the crash: "It must have been something quite big.

"And they must have known it had happened

"The drivers side front wing had been literally ripped apart, the headlight was smashed, a hole had been made in the drivers side door, and a piece had been knocked out of the wing mirror.

"However, the culprit had left no note, only traces of white paint on the damaged wing.

"The incident was reported to the Police, but without a vehicle registration number they can do nothing.

"A passing taxi driver later said that it had happened at about 1.40pm, and that he thought it had been a sand and gravel lorry."

Ms Young's insurers have said that her Citroen Berlingo is a write-off, and she will lose her insurance excess, which will reduce the payout she receives.

She had gone into Birmingham for the day and came back to see the crash at 2.50pm.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "Wylds Lane provides essential access to residences and businesses, so HGV usage is unavoidable.

"We are aware that the width of the road, coupled with the presence of parked vehicles can sometimes make access for larger vehicles difficult.

"We are happy to review the situation but unfortunately, due to a lack of off-street parking, most measures would result in a significant reduction in the number of parking spaces available to local residents."
