A SCHOOL has been closed because the building is ‘freezing cold’ due to electrical and heating problems.

Oldbury Park Primary School, in Oldbury Road, Worcester, shut at 1.30pm today (December 6) and will remain closed all day tomorrow.

Sarah Boyce, the school’s headteacher, said: “It is due to electrical and heating problems in the school. We are closing to find out what caused them,” she said.

“The school is freezing cold and has no hot water without heating and electricity.

“The children will be back in on Thursday. It was a difficult decision to make and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

“We hope to rectify the situation as soon as possible.”

Jenni Tansley wrote on Facebook: "The children were all sent in extra layers and warm clothes as per schools request today but the temperature within the school isn't acceptable.

"I certainly don't want my children suffering unnecessarily and think the head and school have done the right thing."

Emma Done also wrote on Facebook: "I do agree but the way parents were kept informed I don't agree [with] we were only made aware of the heating last night via text this has actually been going on for more than a week.

"And more irritating I was in the office collecting my eldest at 10.45am and asked what the temperatures were like in KS1 where my youngest is and I was told it was fine all nice and warm.

"As I said it's the best thing but lack of communication here has been a huge error."

Some parents said the school was in a difficult position and would be criticised whatever they decided to do.

Jen Watton added: "If they kept it open the people would be complaining about the health and safety issues for the children concerned.

"It was the best option. The children had been sent in extra layers today but due to the electrical problems it was a safer option to close the school and get the safety issues addressed.

"I'm sure parents wouldn't want their children inside a school that was freezing cold with electrical faults.

"The headteacher is putting the children's health and safety first."
