A CHARITY truck show set up by a Kidderminster woman with liver disease helped raise thousands for a charity close to her heart.

Rachel Halford-Day set up the event at The Shed, in Kidderminster, along with her husband Andy earlier this month to raise funds and awareness of the importance of the UK donor register.

Mrs Halford-Day has auto immune liver disease and was given just days to live before an organ became available on Christmas Day in 2006.

Since then she has had to battle the illness and has now been told that she needs another transplant as her main artery has closed.

The three day truck show took place on September 9-11 and featured a raffle and an auction on the Saturday night, raising more than £2,000 for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Liver Organ donation charity.

Mrs Halford-Day’s friends Dean and Diane Wilkins also raised £155.70 from a collection held outside the Tesco Kidderminster store. The supermarket also allowed trucker Barry Proctor to park his lorry on the store car park to raise awareness of the charity event.

Mrs Wilkins said: “Rachel keeps going for her family and she is determined to make people aware of the importance of the UK Donor Register.

“We had a wonderful weekend at the charity show at The Shed, with truckers giving up their time for us and we raised money for a great cause.

“Tesco also allowed us to be at their store on September 9 and we want to thank them for their support and the raffle prizes donated for the raffle.

“We are all so proud of Rachel and her family for all the hard work they have put in for raising awareness of the register.

“It is vital for people of all ages and from all walks of life and we hope that everything goes well for Rachel.”
