VOLUNTEERS are being sought to support people affected by crime in Herefordshire.

A recruitment day for those interested in becoming community support volunteers will be held in Worcester in October.

Victim Support is the independent charity for people affected by crime and traumatic events in England and Wales, and the team is looking for more volunteers who are empathetic, non-judgemental and want to make a difference in the community.

The day will consist of team-building activities, group discussions and an information workshop on the different services provided by Victim Support.

There will also be the opportunity to meet the charity’s staff members, volunteers and network with fellow applicants.

Chris Hodson, local manager at Victim Support in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, said: "Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do to help reduce the harm that crime causes to our community. "Crime can have a significant impact on a person’s mental and physical health, and the support our staff and volunteers offer can provide a lifeline.”

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training and ongoing guidance.

When fully trained, volunteers will then begin to directly support people affected by crime.
