THOUSANDS of festival-goers have been enjoying the sights and sounds of this year's Sunshine Festival.

Despite mixed weather including heavy showers at times, a sell out crowd have been having fun and ensured the Upton event reached capacity during the three day event which started yesterday, and comes to a close tomorrow.

This year's line up features a variety of performers including the Bay City Rollers, Sister Sledge, Midge Ure and Leo Sayre.

The festival has grown from small beginnings during its seven year history, now reaching a point where annually it is a multi-stage family friendly event attracting more than 6,000 people, with 4,500 camping over and staying in Upton throughout the weekend.

Festival spokesman, Steve High, said: "It has taken seven years to get to this point, we wouldn't want it to go any bigger - this is maximum capacity.

"The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic. We have six stages on, including a variety stage featuring dance acts and comedians.

"Bobby Davro has been on this year - he went down a storm.

"We are already looking ahead to next year - the advice is always to buy tickets early before they sell out."

A variety of food and drink has been on sale to the crowds at the event, while the bars have also been packed with festival fans.

To help ensure the event is family friendly there is lots for youngsters to do including an inflatables and attraction zone featuring bouncy castles and crazy golf.

Chloe Hawkins and Rachel Peake, from Penkridge, was among those who travelled especially to Upton for the festival.

Miss Hawkins said: "We do the bigger festivals with friends, but we always make the hour-and-a-half trip with our families to Sunshine.

"This is our sixth year, its gets more and more bigger each year."

Miss Peake added: "We always like the tribute acts - we saw a band playing Kings of Leon and enjoyed their performance.

"It is always a great atmosphere here."

Acts have already been booked for 2017's festival including The Three Degrees and the Wurzels.
