REDDITCH youngsters are being invited to take part in free weekly street cricket sessions.

Qualified coaches at Redditch Cricket Club will be teaching street cricket every Wednesday until September 14 between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

Street cricket can be played with any number of people, only one bat and ball is used and is intended to be played in safe, open, community space.

Cllr Pat Witherspoon, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: "It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played street cricket before – or even normal cricket – the sessions are designed for everyone to have a go. There’s still time to bat the ball right out of the court and learn new skills, so pop down to the next session and try something new."

The sessions are being put on by Redditch Borough Council in partnership with Redditch Cricket Club, North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership, West Mercia Police, YMCA and Batchley Support Group thanks to funding from Cllr Graham Vickery’s Councillor Divisional Fund for the Batchley area.

All ages and all backgrounds are welcome to attend.
