LABOUR leadership hopeful Owen Smith is being urged to visit Worcester for a Q&A as part of his bid to wrestle power from Jeremy Corbyn.

Activists in the city, including former Labour MP Mike Foster, have asked the 46-year-old to find out what 'Worcester woman' wants on a fact-finding tour.

Mr Smith is the only contender going up against Mr Corbyn this summer as Labour MPs try and unseat their leader in the ongoing civil war.

Mr Foster, who remains Worcester's only ever Labour MP, said: "What about a hustings in Worcester - key marginals are needed to form a Government, let's see what 'Worcester Woman' wants."

Mr Smith sparked controversy over the weekend by saying Mr Corbyn's policy ideas are "all hot air" because there is no real prospect of him leading the Labour Party into power.

He said the party needed to "get up off its knees" and start looking like a "credible" opposition after Brexit.

"We all want the Labour Party to be a powerful opposition to the Tories, we all want us to be a united opposition, but we haven't been in recent months," he said.
