THE new children’s playground in Bromsgrove town centre officially opened this weekend, just in time for the start of the school summer holidays.

The play area on Bromsgrove’s Recreation Ground outside Asda, now features a new set of urban-themed facilities, ready to be the location for some exciting street theatre taking place on Wednesday, July 27.

The new playground’s design pays tribute to the history of its setting, with the design of the benches, bins and a ‘grand arch’ all referring back to the wartime drill hall which occupied the corner of Recreation Road and Market Street for many years, only recently being demolished.

Councillor Peter Whittaker, portfolio holder for leisure at Bromsgrove District Council, said: “I am delighted that this play area, which boasts modern equipment, is open in time for our young residents to enjoy in time for the summer holidays.”

The street theatre event is taking place near the playground on Wednesday, July 27 from 11am to 3pm.
