A CHARITY which works as an animal sanctuary in Wythall is holding an open day this weekend to try and raise money to support its work.

The Animal Healing Trust and Horse Rescue, which is based on Icknield Street between Wythall and Kings Norton, works with unwanted horses to give healing and complimentary therapies.

At the open day, this Sunday people will be able to take a look around the centre and meet some of the horses. There will be guided talks about the horses, and presentations on the Reiki treatments given to the animals, as well as natural horsemanship demonstrations.

Entertainment will be on hand in the form of live music from local musicians, and there will be refreshments on offer, as well as a tombola and raffle.

People keen on horses will also be able to look into volunteering at the charity and find out more about the work involved.

Pam Holliday, a volunteer for the Animal Healing Trust, said: “The horses and ponies we care for at the sanctuary have come to us for a variety of reasons including cases of neglect, abuse and abandonment. For example we have Miracle who was rescued from imminent slaughter, and Faith who was rescued after use at an experiment laboratory and whom we re-united with her foal, Michael.”

Entry to the open day, which is running from noon to 4pm on Sunday, July 3, is £3 for adults and £1 for children. For more information, contact the owner and co-founder Sue Gessey on 07780 698393 or visit animalhealingtrust.org.uk.
