A “FRUSTRATED homosexual” who sexually assaulted another man in the middle of the afternoon in front of passerby in a Hereford street has been sent to jail.

Frederick Dixon had been drinking with the victim and a group of other men after travelling back to the city from Wales, Worcester Crown Court was told.

The 22-year-old had been living with a 47-year-old woman but they had argued and he had been drinking heavily on the train journey on April 13, Christopher Phillips, prosecuting,
told the court.

He met up with a group of other men drinking in the Newmarket Street area and, after drinking, began making sexual suggestions to one of them, the court heard.

When the man tried to walk away, Dixon grabbed him and put his hand down his trousers and sexually assaulted him, Mr Phillips said.

As he ran off and escaped into the shops, Dixon took one of the bottles of wine he had earlier stolen from Tesco and threw it at him.

Dixon, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to sexual assault
and theft.

Gilles Nelson, defending, said Dixon was deeply ashamed.

The offence was born out of confusion about his sexuality
which had not been tolerated by the community he was born into, Mr Nelson said.

Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said Dixon was a “frustrated
homosexual”.

He was given a sentence of 30 months for the assault and three months concurrent for theft.

He will also have to register as a sex offender
for 10 years.
