AN information event for the over 75s in Shipston was well attended and provided information and advice covering a range of subjects.

Held at the town's Townsend Hall, the event, part of the South Warwickshire GP federation over-75s project, had been organised by Heidi Williams, community nurse for older people, and Jeanneatte Wheeler, over-75s care co-ordinator. They demonstrated provision of personal care, falls prevention, local exercise groups, aids to support daily living and local groups and societies.

Ken Frostick, a Shipston resident approaching his 99th birthday, said: "It was of great benefit to speak to face-to-face with representatives of the various organisations and come away with information to keep and refer to.”

Refreshments were provided by the League of Friends of Shipston on Stour Hospitals, with impromptu musical entertainment.

Patients registered at Shipston Medical Centre who are aged 75 and over who missed the event and would like to get advice and guidance on maintaining health, wellbeing and independence are advised to contact Jeanneatte Wheeler at Shipston Medical Centre on 01608 661845 to arrange an appointment with a community nurse for older people and/or for a referral to Age UK.

The Over 75s project is a 15 month pilot funded by South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group that sees GP practices offering enhanced clinical reviews for patients aged 75 and over to support them in proactively managing their health.
