BOSSES at Hereford County Hospital’s Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) have been handed money to buy an iPad to allow patients to talk with loved ones.
The money, totalling more than £400, was handed over by Hereford’s Tom Mason having largely been raised by the East Wales and Borders Vintage Enthusiasts, of which he is a member.
Mr Mason, who is 78 and lives in Whitecross, came up with the idea after finding it difficult to communicate with wife Diana, 76, after she had a tracheotomy.
She has been in hospital for 28 weeks and had three operations having been admitted with diverticulitis, a condition which sees bacteria become trapped inside the small bulges on the side of the large intestine.
Anne Miles, service development manager for critical care at the hospital said the ITU department will benefit from the iPad.
“We have specialist software, a Smart Box Grid Player, that has been adapted for patients in critical care who have trouble communicating,”
she added.
“We are very grateful to the East Wales and Borders Vintage Enthusiasts for the donation.”
