LESBIAN, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Worcestershire can find out more about fostering and adoption at an event next week.

Members of the LGBT community can find out more at the Hive library on Wednesday, March 4 from 6pm to 8pm.

Worcestershire County Council's adoption and fostering service is hosting the event, which will also provide people with the chance to talk to other families who have adopted or fostered children themselves.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “Our priority is to provide the best possible placement for each and every child in our care, regardless of the carers' sexuality, gender, age, relationships status or religious beliefs.

"We actively encourage LGBT people to consider adopting or fostering as a way of expanding their family, and from experience we know that LGBT people have no barriers in providing the stable and loving home these children desperately need.”

The event is held during the fourth annual LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week, which is a national campaign organised by New Family Social.

Adoption and Fostering Service staff will also be available for a chat at an information event at Redditch Library tomorrow (Saturday) between 11am and 3pm.

Representatives from Gender Trust, New Road Parents' Support, Worcestershire NHS Health and Care Trust, Worcestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre and North Worcestershire Hate Incident Partnership will also be on hand to give advice and information.
